最早開始訂定軌道應用設備的一般環境條件的標準為歐盟區域標準 EN 50125 系列，後來 IEC 根據這些歐盟區域標準制定 IEC 62498 系列國際標準。環境條件的源流國際標準為 IEC 60721 系列。IEC 62498  系列分為三部分：軌道車輛設備  (IEC 62498-1)、固定電力設備 (IEC 62498-2)、及號誌與通訊設備 (IEC 62498-3)。

電磁相容歐盟區域標準為 EN 50121 系列和國際標準 IEC 62236 系列，電磁相容的源流標準則為 IEC 61000 系列國際標準。

特定的環境試驗標準為軌道車輛設備的振動與衝擊試驗 IEC 61373，環境試驗的源流標準為 IEC 60068 系列國際標準。
